Maua, Kenya: “These are our chickens!” Umoja working group members feed their chickens. After they have reproduced, they will share chickens with each member. This will enhance their household food security and provide for a small income.

In John 15, Jesus speaks to the Church concerning the hopes and dreams He has for His followers. In this passage Jesus states that those who abide in Him will “bear much fruit,” and that this fruit will be “fruit that will last...to my Father’s glory.”

What is exciting about this passage is that each Christian has a unique opportunity to impact the world. In fact, God’s desire is that we each impact the world in ways that will live on beyond us while bringing glory to God!

Under the leadership of Epiphanie Mujawimana ZOE has launched a phase of our work that will “bear much fruit that will last!” Through equipping orphans with essential life-skills, ZOE is offering hope and a future not only to this generation, but also to their children and children’s children who will follow them. This project is designed to have these families of orphans financially independent within 2 –3 years. The skills they learn they will be able to pass along for years to come.

Along with training in income generating activities, the Giving Hope project emphasizes training in areas such as discipleship, HIV/AIDS awareness, health and hygiene, animal husbandry, and cultivation of crops. In addition, some of the orphans will opt for vocational training in their field of interest.

Our pilot project for Giving Hope has launched in Maua, Kenya. There, 179 households representing 652 orphans have been enrolled in the program. We are in the process of opening a Giving Hope project in Rwanda which will initially serve 810 children from 270 child-headed housholds.
